Bridge over Mura River

The bridge lies on the motorway section from Vučja vas to Murska Sobota, which crosses the Mura River in a gentle curve. It is designed as a light and very subtly placed structure that disappears into the greenery of the floodplain. With its lenght of 833 meters, it is the longest bridge in Slovenia. It consists of two parallel structures, independent for both directions of traffic.

The bridge crosses the floodplain with 17 smaller spans, and the Mura River with spans of 50 + 80 + 50 meters, which are a kind of exception in the rhythm of smaller spans. The chosen geometry made it possible to use the incremental launching technology, which is known for the quality of the structure and being economic. The selected typical spans (40 meters) and the height of the structure (2,8 meters) enabled the use of incremental launching along the entire length of the bridge, including over the main bigger spans. In the main span, the external stay cables was used, which compensates the reaction of the permanent load and acts as an elastic support for the traffic load. The passage of external cables outside the superstructure with steel deviator thus represents a special feature in the construction and visual sense of the Bridge over Mura River.
