Works begin on the Ressel Bridge over the Krka River in Mršeča vas

In Mršeča vas near Šentjernej, the construction of a new 68 m long bridge over the Krka River has begun. The new Ressel Bridge will replace the current temporary pontoon bridge, which replaced the old wooden bridge in 2014. The new bridge, designed by Ponting Bridges, will enable better traffic flow, increase safety and better connectivity within the local community.

The construction officially began this week with the symbolic laying of the foundation stone, which was placed by the mayor of Šentjernej, Mr. Jože Simonič, and on behalf of the contractor the president of the management board of CGP d.d. Novo Mesto, Mr. Martin Gosenca. The contract for the construction of the bridge was signed in July.

Preparatory work is currently underway at the construction site, and construction of the river embankments will soon begin, which will enable the construction of intermediate supports in the Krka riverbed.

A study was conducted as part of the creation of the final solution, in which we looked for the most suitable bridge variant for the investor in that particular area.

The bridge is designed as an integral structure with three spans. The superstructure is a trapeze concrete girder with a height of 1.25 meters. The support structure consists of two abutments and two intermediate supports in the Krka riverbed. Intermediate supports are hydraulically formed columns with external dimensions of 3.50/1.00 m. The foundation of the bridge is entirely designed to be up to 25 m deep, using piles with a diameter of 1.20 m.

The bridge provides an expanded viewing platform in the middle, which allows people to pause and take in the view of the Krka River, and relates to local tradition with a wooden fence.

The new bridge is expected to be completed in the second half of 2025.
