Ponting proposal 57004 for the new bridge over Drava Lake at Ptuj (Slovenia) is designed according to contemporary bridge design trends as a cable-stayed bridge with four central low pylons, enabling low cost bridge construction with segmental launching.
The bridge overcomes the river Drava, two creeks, path and few infrastructure installations. The bridge geometry lies in an convex radius of 460 m, with spans of 64 + 3 x 98 + 64 = 422 m. The superstructure of the bridge is a pre-stressed concrete box-shaped 18 m wide and 2.6 m deep girder, with 10 m high pylons at each support. The substructure of the bridge consists of two abutments and four middle piers, all deep founded on piles 120 cm in diameter, reaching up to 6 m into the bearing ground.
